Abstract:

Water reservoir programming studies aim to determine the final cultivated land area based on predefined agricultural models and water requirements. Dam utilization rule curve is also provided in such studies. The system of Dez dam water resources was simulated applying the basic information in order to determine the capability of its reservoir to provide the objectives of the performed plan. As a meta-exploratory method, genetic algorithm was applied in order to provide utilization rule curves (intersecting the reservoir volume). The significance of using rule curves and the decrease in decision making variables in the system was determined through system simulation and comparing the results with optimization results (Standard Operating Procedure). One of the most essential issues in optimization of a complicated water resource system is the increasing number of variables. Water reservoir programming studies has been performed based on basic information, general hypotheses and standards and applying monthly simulation technique for a statistical period of 30 years. Results indicated that application of rule curve prevents the extreme shortages and decrease the monthly shortages.

Development of Fuzzy Reservoir Operation Policies Using Genetic Algorithm

This study is focused on developing an integrated optimization-simulation model to develop the operation policies for a multi-purpose reservoir. Objective function of the optimization model is considered to be a linear function of reliability, resiliency, and vulnerability of river-reservoir systems. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to solve the optimization model in which the coefficients of the...

Ageing Effects on the Dam-Reservoir-Foundation Interaction Response of the Dez Concrete Arch Dam

In the present study, as a promotion to the previous attempt of the authors and his co-workers, Labibzadeh et. al. [1] the degradation of mass concrete of the Dez dam was evaluated in more detail using a more sophisticated numerical degradation model. In that preceding work, it was demonstrated that the concrete of the Dez dam has been deteriorated and its mechanical properties have been change...

Guiding rational reservoir flood operation using penalty-type genetic algorithm

r a 200 .021 : +886 2 ail.tku.e Summary Real-time flood control of a multi-purpose reservoir should consider decreasing the flood peak stage downstream and storing floodwaters for future usage during typhoon seasons. This study proposes a reservoir flood control optimization model with linguistic description of requirements and existing regulations for rational operating decisions. The approach...

Optimizing hydropower reservoir operation using hybrid genetic algorithm and chaos

Genetic algorithms (GA) have been widely used to solve water resources system optimization. However, when applying GAs to solve large-scale and complex water reservoir system problems, premature convergence is one of the most frequently encountered difficulties and takes a large number of iterations to reach the global optimal solution and the optimization may get stuck at a local optimum. Ther...

RESERVOIR OPERATION OPTIMIZATION USING CBO, ECBO AND VPS ALGORITHMS

This paper utilizes the Colliding Bodies of Optimization (CBO), Enhanced Colliding Bodies of Optimization (ECBO) and Vibrating Particles System (VPS) algorithms to optimize the reservoir system operation. CBO is based on physics equations governing the one-dimensional collisions between bodies, with each agent solution being considered as an object or body with mass and ECBO utilizes memory to ...

Multipurpose Reservoir Operation Using Particle Swarm Optimization

This paper presents an efficient and reliable swarm intelligence-based approach, namely elitist-mutated particle swarm optimization EMPSO technique, to derive reservoir operation policies for multipurpose reservoir systems. Particle swarm optimizers are inherently distributed algorithms, in which the solution for a problem emerges from the interactions between many simple individuals called par...
